Bespoke 1:1 support

Choosing a route

Start with the support your child and family may need.

Parents often get in touch because something about their child's communication does not feel where they expected it to be. You do not need an NHS referral or a diagnosis before making an enquiry.

The suitability process provides space to explain what you are noticing. Each enquiry is reviewed by an HCPC-registered Speech & Language Therapist before considering whether Little Talkers, bespoke 1:1 Speech & Language Therapy or another next step may be appropriate.

What the suitability process considers

  • Your child's age and the communication concerns you have noticed
  • Whether group or individual support interests you
  • Where you live in Edinburgh or the Lothians
  • Any current NHS or private Speech & Language Therapy support

Questions parents ask

Finding an appropriate next step

What age is Little Talkers for?

Little Talkers is designed for children aged 18 months to 3 years. Suitability is personally reviewed before any place is offered.

Is Little Talkers the same as 1:1 therapy?

No. Little Talkers is a small-group parent and child programme. Bespoke 1:1 support is available on a limited basis for children who may need a different format.

Do I need to know which option is right before enquiring?

No. You can describe what you are noticing and the type of support you are considering. An HCPC-registered Speech & Language Therapist reviews the enquiry as a whole before discussing an appropriate next step.

What if I am not sure whether my toddler needs speech therapy?

You do not need to decide that before getting in touch. The suitability process is designed to understand what you are noticing without promising or assuming a diagnosis.
